DESCRIPTION:

A concert of Philippine traditional music and art songs need not be dull or staid.  Fashion, theater and dance can come together to create a mile-en-scene that is exciting, unpredictable and visually stunning to behold.

This is the concept of the show. The premiere soprano of the country, Rachelle Gerodias, sings the immortal classics of our music, in a spectacle that combines the classic songs with a madcap nostalgia.

She is joined by Dr. Raul Sunico,  Baritone Byeong In Park, Jett Pangan, Koro ng Unda and the Kalilayan Folk Dance Troupe together with the chamber orchestra.

Act 1 - CARNIVAL QUEEN GLAMOR
The suite is set in the era of the Manila Carnival of the 1920s. It  opens with a tertulia or soiree, As the audience enters, the Kalilayan dancers are already on stage set to perform a Jota or Valse.

Rachelle enters dressed in full carnival queen glamor. She sings 4 kundimans. She is accompanied by Raul Sunico. As she exits, the dancers enters stage again, this time dressed in the style of the Commonwealth period.

Act 2  - A LOVE AFFAIR IN PEACETIME
The second suite is set in the Commonwealth era (nostalgically referred to as ‘Peace Time’). The dancers perform a Rigodon de Honor.

Byeong In Park enters , dressed in the white cutaway tux, made popular by Manuel L. Quezon. He sings a solo. He is joined by Rachelle, in an all-white gown 40s Filipiniana gown. They sing three duets together.

Act 3 – DASAL
Folk faith is celebrated with the Subli, a Batangueño dance that honors the Holy Cross. The solemn aspect of faith is felt in Rachelle’s renditions of Ave Maria and Kundiman ng Buhay.

Act 4 - FUNKY PASTORALE
The fourth suite opens with a frenetic madcap Tinkling or Pandango sa Ilaw.  Rachelle enters in a a Patis Tesoro inspired floral brocade Maria Clara top in blue jeans and stilettos. She sings three pastoral -themed songs with the Koro ng Unida.

Then, she is joined by Jett Pangan who does a mash-up/duet with  her as they sing a specially-arranged version of the classic “Mutya Ng Pasig” and the contemporary song “Anak Ng Pasig”.

FINALE
The finale is a pean to the Nation—the spectacular hymn--  "Pilipinas Kong Mahal".
