Established in 2005, Cinemalaya continues to discover, encourage and support the cinematic works of upcoming and veteran Filipino filmmakers who boldly articulate and freely interpret the Philippine experience with fresh insight and artistic integrity.

For its 15th year, Cinemalaya launches 10 Full-length and 10 Short Feature films and exhibits other award-winning films from all over the Philippines and around Asia.

In celebration of its 15th year, Cinemalaya pushes for more screens throughout the country, partnering with Ayala and Vista Cinemas for screenings in the regions particularly in Legazpi, Naga, Davao City, Iloilo, Bacolod, and Pampanga. It is also launching the Cinemalaya Campus Student Short Shorts 1-minute Competition, a pre-festival campaign from 4 June to 25 July 2019 up until the festival proper on 2 to 13 August 2019 for the simultaneous screenings at the regional partner cinemas. Cinemalaya also partners with Tokyo Docs, Japan’s international documentary event which support co-productions of documentaries as it strengthens its ties with the Eiga Sai Japanese Film Festival as an allied festival. On its 5th year at Cinemalaya, exciting alternative works will be showcased in the Ika-31 Gawad CCP Para Sa AlternatibongPelikula at Video.

To date, Cinemalaya has supported and promoted the production of Filipino full feature independent films and short films. Many of these films have won awards in local and international competitions and festivals. Through the annual festival, Cinemalaya has showcased over 1,000 works by independent filmmakers including full feature films, shorts, documentaries, Filipino film classics, and art films.

The 2019 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival promises to deliver the best visual storytelling to every film enthusiast. Judging by this year’s line-up of full-length films and short features, there is something that will surely capture the audience’s imagination.
